Tasting Notes

The Family Series Winemaker’s Blend Red 2020 has a beautiful nose filled with aromas of dark, chllli chocolate, fresh cherries, mulberries, ripe plums, and whiffs of pencil shavings. The palate is quite bold and rich, but with a wonderful sense of brightness to it.

Winemaker’s Comments

An incredibly fun wine to put together. There are no rules when it comes to the Winemaker’s Blend and the sole thought is to blend something that represents the whole of Saxenburg in a particular vintage. The dominant Syrah component was dark, brooding, and plush, with the 5% whole bunch Syrah and the Cabernet Sauvignon (picked early and made in a very light and bright style) counterbalancing that richness beautifully. The Malbec and Cabernet Franc adding both texture and layers of complexity.

Vinification Details:	All components were fermented separately in open-top fermenters and then matured in 300L barrels. Apart from a small Syrah component (5%), all components were destemmed, but not crushed. The Syrah was matured in 2nd fill barrels and the rest of the blend in 4th fill barrels for 12 months.
