Tasting Notes:
Family Series Winemaker’s Blend Red 2022 – Small-batch produced wines
There is a dense violet colour to the wine. Concentrated dark fruit and cassis notes develop into layered black currant, blueberry, strawberry, mocha, dark cherry and aromatic herb notes. The palate has a juicy entry with a fine, well-integrated tannin and firm structure. The mouthfeel is coated and lingers on the palate. This vintage is a tribute to the second-generation proprietors of Saxenburg, symbolizing the transition and continuation of our legacy.
Family Series Winemaker’s Blend Red 2020 – Small-batch produced wines
A beautiful nose shows aromas of dark, chilli chocolate, fresh cherries, mulberries, ripe plums, and whiffs of pencil shavings. The palate is quite bold and rich, but with a wonderful sense of brightness to it. A perfect red blend crafted to embody the skill and tradition of Saxenburg’s winemaking expertise.
Family Series 2nd Generation Syrah 2021 – Small-batch produced wines
Layered spice notes of freshly crushed black pepper, cinnamon, cloves and cumin. Undertones lend beautifully delicate red cherry and black current notes. The bouquet is rounded off with vanilla pods and violet blossoms. On the palate, the wine is tense with a velvety tannin and a spicy black pepper finish. This blend brings together the best characteristics of our varietals to create a harmonious and enjoyable wine.
Private Collection Pinotage 2020 – Hand-picked Vinoteque release
The 2020 vintage stood out for its elegance. This wine is made in a much lighter style than most commercial Pinotage, but we believe the brightness and freshness of this wine truly represent the wonderful site on which the vineyard is planted. The colour is bright red and on the nose, you will find loads of red cherries, raspberries, blueberries, and blossoms, balanced by a faint whiff of damp soil. The beautiful fruit on the nose carries through to a palate that is elegant, with finely grained tannins. The finish is pleasantly dry, without being astringent.
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 – Our newest current vintage release
This vintage has a bright garnet and ruby colour. The nose is layered with mulberry, prune, bramble, tobacco, mocha and fynbos notes. The entry on the palate is smooth with refined, sculpted tannins, and a bright acid culminates in a dark cherry finish.
Château Capion Le Juge 2008 – A heritage piece from the Buhrer’s previous wine farm in Aniane, France
Here the Mediterranean varietals fully express themselves, with this intense dusky red colour and a red fruit flavour, such as blackberries. This is a wine that combines both strength and finesse. Light and stylised with vanilla aromas and with a spicy and smooth tannin texture. On the final note there will be a light menthol-flavoured taste.
Le Juge 2008 is a distinguished wine from Château Capion, reflecting the incredible terroir and Syrah production that the Buhrer family has cherished. The Buhrers purchased the farm in 1996. The Buhrer children, including our current proprietor Fiona, spent half of their childhood at Saxenburg and the other half at this enchanting farm in France. The terroir at Château Capion, much like Saxenburg, is renowned for its exceptional Syrah production.
