Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 1995
Brick red in colour. Lightly roasted coffee beans, fennel and raw meat on the nose. This carries through to the palate and is combined with cocoa beans, tight acidity and beautifully fine tannins.
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 1997
A beautifully matured nose that shows less fruit, but beautiful caramel aromas, that are offset by fresh red bell pepper and peppadews. The acidity is tight and the tannin structure quite generous and grainy, while maintaining elegance.
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 – IWSC Triple Winner
The nose is slightly subdued initially but opens to lovely fresh red berries, worn leather, milk chocolate and cloves. Tannins are very much intact, quite boxy, but still fine-grained. Will benefit from gentle decanting.
The 2003 vintage was crowned with the Warren Winiarski Trophy for Cabernet Sauvignon, but also with the Best in Class Medal and the prestigious Gold Medal in the Cabernet Sauvignon category amongst 6000 Cabernets worldwide at the IWSC International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
A beautifully elegant wine, with loads of freshly roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate shows some typical Cabernet fruit, with a hint of tomato leaf and beautiful length.
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
This wine has matured beautifully! Initially, the nose is rather shy, but it opens up to reveal loads of toasted coconut and dark, dried fruit. The palate has an abundance of cassis and blackberries, with incredibly fine-grained and beautifully poised tannins. The wine is beautifully fresh and will benefit from decanting before serving.
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
This is a beautiful example of Polkadraai Cabernet. Well structured, but finely grained palate, with seamlessly integrated oak. Loads of fresh red and blackberries are complemented by ripe plums and cherries. This wine has plenty of length and while drinking beautifully now, will age with grace.
The IWSC International Wine & Spirit Competition recently re-tasted the 2013 vintage to much acclaim. “Bright ripe black fruit is in pristine balance with silky tannin structure on this well balanced and rewarding wine. A good varietal character with an unflagging savoury-dry finish. ” – IWSC
