Success extends beyond a single name.

When Adrian and Birgit Bührer took ownership of Saxenburg in 1989, the farm — and South Africa as a nation — was in dire need of rejuvenation. Thanks to their grit and unflappable perseverance, they tenaciously stuck to their vision.

They traded their familiar surroundings of Switzerland for a dilapidated homestead in the Cape Winelands. While they brought a sweeping change to the estate, the success of the farm is thanks to the entire team.

Meet the people who have engraved their names into the success story of our estate.

Emil realised at a young age that he’s future was in the vineyards and the cellar and so after he completed school he applied to Elsenburg to study viticulture. “I am extremely honoured to start my career at Saxenburg, especially knowing that we share the same sentiment of quality over quantity.” Emil will work as assistant wine maker under the guidance of Edwin Grace.

Saxenburg’s Viticulture manager, Donovan Diedericks, co-manages the vineyards alongside our Cellar Master. His hands-on approach throughout the entire vinicultural process ensures that Saxenburg can create grapes of the highest quality which allows us to create our exceptional wines.
